Subject Matter

Currently computers are changing from single isolated devices to entry points in a world wide network of information exchange and business transactions called the World Wide Web (WWW). Therefore support in data, information, and knowledge exchange becomes the key issue in current computer technology. The WWW has drastically changed the availability of electronically available information. However, this success and exponential grow makes it increasingly difficult to find, to access, to present, and to maintain the information of use to a wide variety of users. In reaction to this bottleneck many new research initiatives and commercial enterprises have been set up to enrich available information with machine processable semantics. Such support is essential for "bringing the web to its full potential" in areas such as knowledge management and electronic commerce. This semantic web will provide intelligent access to heterogeneous and distributed information enabling software products (agents) to mediate between the user needs and the available information sources.

Program

This term the seminarcovers topics from the following areas in Semantic Web and related fields:

Web Services Semantic Web Services and Composition Uncertainty & Semantic Web Services Combining agents technologies and Semantic Web Services Semantic Web Portals Information Retrieval Grid Computing Uncertainty & logic programming and deductive databases Neural-network based text classifiers

The seminar will be held as a block seminar from Friday, June 4th 2004 (7 pm.) until Sunday, June 6th 2004 (7pm). Our host will be the workshop and congress center Universitätssportheim in Obergurgl, which is located around 100km from Innsbruck in the beautiful valley Ötztal. Because of its surroundings and its particular location it is indeed a hidden pearl among the congress centers in Austria. More information on the seminar center as well as how to get there can be found here.

The transportation for all participants is arranged. We are going to depart at the institute at 5.30 pm.
